Question
Okay so I have my stock solution, which is made by adding 50 mL of 0.01 M KSCN and three drops of 0.2 M Fe(NO3)3 Fe3+(aq)+SCN-(aq)<->Fe(SCN)2+(aq)Can someone help me answer these questions
Explain observation using the Le Chatlier’s Príncipe for the following experiments:
1.) 5 mL of stock solution and two crystals of KSCN turned the solution dark orange
2.) 5 mL of stock solution and two crystals of of KNO3 resulted in a solution that was light orange
3.) 5 mL of stock solution and 2 drops of 6 M NaOH turned the solution a light yellow
Thank you for all your help!

Explanation / Answer
Fe3+(aq)+SCN-(aq)<.....................> Fe(SCN)2+(aq)
1)
in this reaction forward reaction leads to dark orange colored complex Fe(SCN)2+(aq) . so when 5 mL of stock solution and two crystals of KSCN added then according to Le Chatlier’s Príncipe, forward reaction occurs and resulting the solution turned into dark orange.
2)
Fe(NO3)3 ..........> Fe3+ + 3 NO3-.
when crystals of of KNO3 added then ionization of Fe(NO3)3 decreases. Hence there are less chances for complexation. so color of the solution turns into light orange.
3) when NaOH is added then Fe3+ react with NaOH to form Fe(OH)3 which is light yellow color. Hence there is no available of Fe3+ for complexation with SCN-.
Fe3+ + 3 OH-..........> Fe(OH)3
