Question 10 of 11 Map Consider this reaction data: If you were going to graphically determine the activation energy of this reaction, what points would you plot? A products Number Number T(K) k(s) 325 0.397 675 0.670 point 1: To avoid rounding errors, use at least three significant figures in all values. Number Number point 2 Determine the rise, run, and slope of the line formed by these points. rise run slope Number Number Number What is the activation energy of this reaction? Number J/ mol 'O Previous ® Give Up & View Solution in ? Hint Check Answer Next Exit

Explanation / Answer

Arhenius equation can be used to detemine the activation energy

The equation is lnK= lnKo-Ea/RT

so the plot of lnK vs 1/T gives the slope of -Ea/R. R= 8.314 J/mole.K

T1= 325K, 1/T1= 1/325 =0.003077 , lnK1= ln(0.397)= -0.9238, T2= 675K 1/T2= 1/675= 0.001481

, lnK2= ln(0.670)= -0.40048

X-axis is 1/T and y-axis is lnK

hence 1/T1= 0.003077 , 1/T2= 0.001481, run = 1/T1-1/T2 = 0.003077-0.001481=0.001595,

rise = -0.40048+0.9238 =0.5233

slope =-0.5233/0.001595 =-328

Ea/R=-328

Ea= -328*8.314 =2727 joules/mole
