Question
The refractive index of a substance at 20 degree C is 1.37. Find the refractive index at 60 degree C. (Use the general correlation given in the manual/ppt. that correlates the refractive and some other temperature.) There are two compounds A and B. A is highly soluble in water at 100 degree C but almost insoluble in water at 4 degree C. A is highly soluble in methanol at both high and low temperature. B is insoluble in water at both high and low temperature. B is highly soluble in methanol at 64 degree C. Draw a flowchart showing the of A and B by Recrystallization.Explanation / Answer
3.
Refractive index at T1-(T1-T2)(0.00045)=Refractive index at T2
T1= 20 0C
T2 = 60 0C
RI at 20 = 1.37
So RI at 60 = 1.37-(20-60)*(0.00045)=1.388
