Instructions: What would happen if a species of lizard were suddenly split into 2 groups by a hurricane resulting in the isolation of a small group of individuals on an island far from the mainland? Abstract In writing this report, I will be identifying what happen to species if they were faced with a distressed such as a hurricane or tornado. Also, I will map out a plan for their safety. Phase 2 Lab Report What would happen if a species of lizard were suddenly split into 2 groups by a hurricane resulting in the isolation of a small group in individuals on an island far from the mainland? In conducting research it appears that the lizards separated during a hurricane survive. Lizards just like any other animals reproduce naturally and adapt to their environment whether safe or not. Title: Speciation • Purpose · During research on how species of lizards split into 2 groups survive a hurricane far from the mainland. • Introduction · Speciation occurs when a population of a species is affected by a natural disturbance such a flood, hurricane, or fire moves a differ surrounding from dessert to wetland. A species isolated to different surrounding will change and adapt to its new living environment and ecosystem and thus, creating a new species. Separated species do not produce with the main species that they come from because of the difference in the upbringing (evolution.berkeley.edu). • Hypothesis/Predicted Outcome · If we take a species of lizards and split them into two groups due to a hurricane, the lizards will take on different habits and characteristics of other. • Methods · Conduct internet searches to identify different species of lizards and mice. Identify how they changed based on distinct living conditions. All animals adapt differently to their living environments. • Results/Outcome · Due to the hurricane, the lizards were separated in two categories. The Hurricane caused for the species isolation. After the separation, the species of lizards would survive living in different locations and ate adapting to their unique surroundings. . • Discussion/Analysis · The analysis of this lab resulted in species separating and new species born. Due to the Hurricane, species were forced to adapt for survival. With the demands of a new environment. I expect a new species to develop and eventually thrive in new surroundings. Explanation / Answer
Introduction - Speciation occurs when a population of a species is affected by a natural disturbance such a flood, hurricane, or fire moves a differ surrounding from desert to wetland. A species isolated to different surrounding will change and adapt to its new living environment and ecosystem and thus, create a new species the species to a group of the same species living in the same geographic area. This would represent a population. What would happen if the species within this population were suddenly split into two groups by an earthquake, creating a physical barrier such as a canyon? If a population is divided indefinitely by a barrier, members of the divided population will not have the opportunity to breed with each other.
. Separated species do not produce with the main species that they come from because of the difference in the upbringing
Hypothesis/Predicted Outcome · If we take a species of lizards and split them into two groups due to a hurricane, the lizards will take on different habits and characteristics of other. A lizard can be used as a group of organisms that are able to interbreed to produce fertile and viable offspring under natural conditions. This description of a species can further be characterized as reproductive isolation, where physical and sometimes behavioral traits of an organism will only allow them to reproduce with an organism that has the same traits. Using the aforementioned definition of a species, different breeds of dogs are able to produce fertile and viable offspring because they are all the same species, but dogs and cats are unable to interbreed because they are two different species.
Results/Outcome · Due to the hurricane, the lizards were separated into two categories. The Hurricane caused for the species isolation. After the separation, the species of lizards would survive living in different locations and ate adapting to their unique surroundings. The abiotic (nonliving) and biotic (living) conditions on either side of the physical barrier will vary from one another. As a result, natural selection will cause different selective and adaptive pressures to occur between the two divided populations, and they will evolve differently. Over time, this will result in speciation, which is the creation of two new species. This occurs because of reproductive isolation.
Discussion/Analysis · The analysis of this lab resulted in species separating and new species born. Due to the Hurricane, species were forced to adapt for survival. With the demands of a new environment. I expect a new species to develop and eventually thrive in new surroundings since in biological terms, the organisms that are able to interbreed to produce fertile and viable offspring under natural conditions. This description can further be characterized as reproductive isolation, where physical and sometimes behavioral traits of an organism will only allow them to reproduce with an organism that has the same traits.
