The major cause for secession of the southern states explicitly is to remove slavery throughout the nation. This was also termed as AMERICAN CIVIL WAR.
Most people especially northern claimed that the purpose of civil war is really to end slavery but that is not the exact reason, the south felt really insecure after Lincoln was elected their problems will not be considered in American politics so they finally decided to form their own government with separate laws which benefit them the most. The main reason for their thinking was about the unfair tariff north are imposing on them and by forming a new government they could be free from tariff
North was well developed with industries, factories and south was more depending on agriculture which made them to earn more and north really didn't like this concept of southern people earning more than them and imposed higher taxes and this is the main reason why south felt bad and decided to separate.
Lincoln's election also played a vital role as he was elected only by northern votes and there was no politics at all in the south.
The main motivation is the soldiers believed in concept of slavery repulsive. Confederate soldiers believed they were fighting because of failure to resolve slavery was the major reason for civil war and almost seven slave States decided to separate and form new nation confederate states of America.
By this movement slavery was set freed across the united states. The American civil war is one of the very few wars that really achieved something worth and many Americans were died for a good cause...
