Question

(Religous Studies)

Linda Gibler speaks of her awakening to the grandeur of the Universe through science, specifically through the work of Brian Swimme and photographs from the Hubble Space Telescope. She states that she began to understand that her "concept of God was too small," that her image of God just wasn't large enough to contain the Universe. Gibler reports that her image of God was "shattered", but she had the "joyful task re-collecting those pieces and reassembling those pieces in a way that would bring even more richness and more depth and more beauty" to her life.

Similarly, Joan Chittister speaks of her changing understanding and images of God. In her interview with Micheal Dowd, Chittister asks: " How does this evolutionary understanding of reality, that we gain through a whole range of sciences, enhance or expand or enrich or challenge or threaten or shift our understanding of God, God's nature, or how we relate to God?

Go back and look again at the Gibler & Chittister interviews: How has an understanding of the evolutionary origin of the universe and its ongoing development affected your understanding of God? If your understanding and image of God has changed, explain how you thought of God before an evolutionary understanding (ex: judge, magician, puppeteer, law maker, etc), and who you think God may be now. If you image hasn't changed much, explain what your image is and why an evolutionary understanding of the universe has not shifted your understanding of God.

What is your response Gibler and CHittister's stories of awakening to a scientific view of the universe and how they integrated it with their faith and spirituality. What about your images of God over the years? Have you ever had an experience that challenged or "shattered" your concept of God or your understanding of some religious doctrine (no matter what religion). If so, how did you work through it? If not, do you feel satisfied and enlivened by your present understanding of the divine, or are you looking for change? Do you feel your God might be too small? Have you ever felt this way?

Explanation / Answer

Image of GOD for me is always big. Because i personally believe god can.help.us in any way when our prayer is really worth. I have a few examples where god have truly helped me in my tough situations.

One day i went to a fest which is not in my hometown. By the time it was finished its very dark outside and its a village and nothing is visible outside. All the autos are full that we cant even step inside. We were three, getting late. I usually pray lord shiva. That day i just asked him with pain to ahow some way. In the next 5min i got one empty auto and he dropped us in a wrong place that we dint know. We were waiting for the bus and its getting more late. Again i prayed him and suddenly two ladies came and asked us where you have to go and we said vijayawada. They said you dont get any bus here go to next stop. We reached there and those ladies went suddenly. While we are waiting for bus ...no bus was coming and again i prayed him and a bus came which is to my hometown. That day i strongly believed in him. Also once upon a time i was thinking what if my love will be a failure. I used to cry alot thinking i shouldn't miss him. Interesting thing here you wont believe is i have a habit of playing choices in paper. In that, i used to come to know that it will be a failure. I used to struggle a lot. But gradually god has brought a situation that we both were apart now without me having any pain. This is how god will do for your life which u dont expect. Though you feel pain in sometime definitely he Will give you the best thing
