Question
Does BaF2 or OF2 have a higher vapor pressure? I said it was BaF2 but I think I may be wrong. Do you look the the intermolecular forces? OF2 has 2 lone pairs so I thought it was polar covalent. BaF2 didn't have any lone pairs so I said it was linear. So does that mean OF2 has stronger bonds and a lower vapor pressure and BaF2 has a higher vapor pressure? If not, why? Thank you! Weaker the intermolecular forces the higher the vapor pressure.
Electronegativity of Ba is lower than O. So, in case of BaF2, there is a strong dipole-dipole force as compared to OF2.
Dipole-dipole force is stronger than London-dispersion force.
So, intermolecular forces is stronger in BaF2 than OF2.
Hence OF2 have higher vapor pressure.
