Question
The Borg were conducting research 10 quantify the number of Smarts on various planets in the universe They utilized the following approach to quantity smarts Mass a Galacto test tube Add the planet to a Galacto test tube Mass the Galacto test tubes with the planet (just in case) Add 1000 YL (yotta litters) of Smarts solve Agitate for 24 hours to have the smarts dislodge into the Smart solve Remove 1 YL of solvent and add 6 YL of diluting Add a sample of the mixture to a Smart meter corvette and record the reading in a Smartometer The volume of the added mixture is not necessary to record Given dry Galacto test tube to evaporate off oceans rivers and other sources of water plus the Smurfosolve Standard curve Dissolve Known quantities of Smurfs into Smurfosolve Add a sample of the mixture to a Smufometer cuvette and record the reading in a Smurfomete The volume of the added mixture is not necessary to record Oddly enough, the Borg were able to create all of this massive, complicated technology without having Excel, calculators or anything comparable They just have pencils and paper Needless to say they ate awesome at calculating by hand patience and using trigonometry and logarithm tables Check Explain how a sharp pencil, graph paper and ruler could be used to provide a very, good estimate of how many smurfs per YL were in the cuvette You will need a nice sketch of how this would work Explain how the addition of the dilutant will be accounted for in the calculations Explain how the total number of Smurfs came off the planets into the Smurfosolve can be calculated Explain how the Smurfs per Yg of planet (dry weight) can be calculatedExplanation / Answer
1. Make a graph, smurfs/YL to the reading mark all the points and join them to form a smooth curve
2. Let's say you have x number of smurfs in 1000 yottalitre of smurfsolver, then number of smurfs
per YL will be x smurfs / 1000 YL which is x*10-3 smurfs / YL
again when you add of 5 yottalitre of the dilutant
then number of smurfs / YL will be =( x/5)*10-3 smurfs/YL
that means number of smurfs per YL will be known & decreased by adding dilutant.
3. I am doing an example for first reading,
5*106 smurfs are present in 1YL of smurfsolver
? smurfs are present in 1000YL of smurfsolver
calculate ? by cross multiplying which will give you 5*109 smurfs/YL
This is how you calculate for no of smurfs who came off the planets into the smurfsolver
4.
(weight of the oven dried galacto test tube after evaporation) - (test tube weight)
will give you the weight of the dry planet after evaporation
after evaporation all oceans , rivers, smurfsolver is evaporated, so the left over will be dry
planet on which smurfs exist .
weight of the planet =(weight of test tube + planet) - weight of test tube
(weight of the planet) - (dry weight of the planet after evaporation) = smurfs/Yg
