Question
If the spectroscope calibration for mercury looks like this:
And the Spectroscope positions for Hydrogen are:
What are each of the wavelengths (using the calibration curve) for Hydrogen?
We used a spectroscope to look at a mercury lamp and a hydrogen lamp (spectrum tubes with Hg gas and H2 gas). We were given the mercury wavelengths and we had to record the position that we saw them on the spectroscope scale. Next, we recorded the position on the scale for the hydrogen, only we weren't given the wavelengths for hydrogen. Those we had to calculate.
Please show your work, or explain your answer.
Thank you!! :)
Mercury Wavelengths Position on Scale Violet: 404.7 nm 4.2 Blue: 435.8 nm 4.5 Green: 546.1 nm 5.5 Yellow: 579.0 nm 5.7Explanation / Answer
Solution.
Purple ( purple is a combination of two spectral colors, red and blue). At 415 nm, Spectroscope positions for Hydrogen is 4.3
Green/Blueis at 435 nm, Spectroscope positions for Hydrogen is 4.8
Yellow at 579 nm, Spectroscope positions for Hydrogen is 5.8
Red at 689 nm, Spectroscope positions for Hydrogen is 6.7
