Question

CHEM 3A Lab Quiz 3B Name: Lab Section (Instructor, Day, Time) Lecture Instructor: Study Guide B 1. Propane (CHs) burns in oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water a. Balance the reaction below: (5 points) If 200. g of propane is completely burned, how many grams of H2O are produced? (10 points) b. 2. React 1.5 g of NHs with 2.75 g of O2 by following balanced equation. 4NHs + SO2 4NO + 61120 What is the limiting reagent (5 points) and how many grams of NO are produced? (5 points) a. b. If 1.85 g of NO can be collected, what is the % yield of the reaction? (5 points)

Explanation / Answer

1) The combustion reaction for propane can be given as:-

a) the balanced reaction is :-

C3H8   + 5O2   ---------------> 3CO2   + 4H2O

b) 1 mole of propane produce 4 moles of water .

Amount of propane given = 200 g

molar mass of propane = 44 g /mol

44 g of propane produce = 72 g of water

200 g of propane will produce = 72 x 200 / 44 = 327.27 g of water
