1 Addition of NaOH to HCl results in neutralization reaction. H+ will be consumed by OH- ions and equllibrium shifts towards right. The pH of the system also increases. 2 It is a colorless compound. Addition of phenophthalein to the system of pH 0-8.2 or above 13 would not result in any color change. 3 NaOH is strong base. When base added to the phenophethalein, equillibrium moves towards right and gives purple color. 4 HCl is strong acid. NaOH and HCl undergo neutralization reaction and nullifies the effect of both acid and base. Solution pH will comesdown to below 8.2. So, solution becomes clear. 5 Methyl orange is a pH indicator. It does not affect the equillibrium. Color change indicates that solution is in acidic medium. 6 sodium acetate is slightly basic when added to the solution. H+ ions will be consumed and equillibrium will shift towards right. Color change indicates that pH of the system increased. 7 When cl- ion concentration is less, Cobalt in aqueous slotion gives pinkish color by forming hydrated cobalt salt. 8 with increasing the Cl- ion cocncentration, cobalt salt changes to (CoCl4)^(-2) ion. This gives blue color to the solution 9 addition of water decreases the Cl- ion concentartion. So system return to its intial state.
