Question
exercise # 1 (30 pts) Car's failures are classified as either Mechanicat IM] or Electrical IE. A failure could be also critical [Cl or non-critical INCL Historical data showed that 60% of the failures are mechanical failures out of which 15% are critical. The other 40 % of the failures are electrical failures out of which 5% are critical. . You MUST use the letters (C, NC, M.E . All probabi ility statements and equations should be clearly written before numerical applications 1- A failure has happen, what is the associated sample space? 2- What is the probability that a failure is critical knowing that is it a Mechanical Failure? 3-What is the compliment of the event in 02, calculate its probability (of the compliment) 4- A failure has happen, what is the probability that is a non-critical and electrical failure? 5- A failure has happen, what is the probability that is a non-critical failure?Explanation / Answer
Exercise 1)
1) Sample space : {C,NC}
2) P(C/M) = P(C AND M)/P(M) = (0.6 * 0.15) / 0.6 = 0.15 Answer
3) Compliment : Failure is not critical knowing it is mechanical
P(NC/M) = P(NC AND M)/P(M) = (0.85*0.6)/0.6 = 0.85 Answer
4) P(NC AND E)= 0.4 * (1-0.05) = 0.38 Answer
5) P(NC) = 0.6*(1-0.15) + 0.4*(1-0.05) = 0.89 Answer
As per the chegg Q&A guidelines I have provided solution for first four sub parts. If you need rest please ask a seperate question.
