Question
Experiment : An Aerobic Alcohol Oxidation Using a Copper (I)/TEMPO Catalyst
In this experiment, CuBr, 2,2 bipyridine, N-methyl imidazole and TEMPO was used to convert benzyl alcohol to aldehyde.
What evidence would appear in the product IR spectra indicating over-oxidization of the aldehyde?

From the spectra, it is observed that the peak at 3446 cm-1 corresponds to the caboxylic acid group.
It is known that over oxidation of alcohol gives the acid. thus benzaldehyde on over oxidation gives benzoic acid and the corresponding peak was observed in IR spectrum at 3446 cm-1.
