2)When 1.0g of Na2CO3 is mixed with 3mL of 6.0M HCl, we observe a reacion taking place with evolution of gas , noticed as bubbles coming out.

The gas is CO2 , we can identify it as CO2 by passing the evolved gas into a test tube of lime water which turns milky due to formation of insoluble CaCO3.

Now the reaction between Na2CO3 and Hcl is

Na2CO3(s) + 2HCl (aq) ---------------> 2 NaCl (aq) + CO2 (g)+ H2O (l)

The gas formed was CO2 from Na2CO3.

Over time as all the Na2CO3 is reacted, the evolution of gas stops.

The overall reaction that accounts for the gas formation is

Na2CO3(s) + 2HCl (aq) ---------------> 2 NaCl (aq) + CO2 (g)+ H2O (l)
