Question
I’m going to do a separation of Tl+ & Co 2+ which method and what concentrations should I use? (I must write an rapport, and than perform this in the laboratory, but I struggle quite hard with this)I have to do the same thing with 5 other ion pairs as well, if someone feel that they want to help with those as well, I would be very happy. Thanks in advance I’m going to do a separation of Tl+ & Co 2+ which method and what concentrations should I use? Explanation / Answer
Answer:
1. For the seperation of Tl+ and Co 2+ They are the metal cations so Thin layer chromatography (TLC) is used.
2. Concentrations of the metal cations Tl+ and Co 2+ is 1% of aqueous solution is used.
For Tl+ : 1% of aqueous solution of Nitrates is used.
For Co 2+ : 1% of aqueous solution of Chlorides is used.
The solutions were prepared in Demineralized water with a specific conductivity of k = 2 X 10 -6 ohm-1 at 25 degree celcius.
In general the solutions for various ions the solutions are prepared with the following salts
Nitrates : Cd2+, Zn 2+, Pb 2+, Bi 3+, Al3+, Ag+
Chlorides : Ni2+, Fe 3+, Hg 2+, Ti 4+, Au 3+
Sulfates : Cu 2+, VO2+, UO22+
The solutions of various anions and surfactants were prepared in demineralized water.
The solutions (1%) of various amines , Phenols, amd aminophenols were prepared in methanol.
