What is the purpose of the indicator in the reaction? 4. The end point of a titration is generally considered to be the stoichiometric equivalence point for the reaction. What error is inherent in this assumption.Explanation / Answer
1) No side reaction shold occur and the reaction should proceed very fast If slow, than a greater amount of the titrant will be added resulting in inaccurate determination of the concentration and also the reaction must be quantitative.
2)We follow titration over gravimetric analysis because gravimetric analysis usually provides only for the analysis of a single element, or a limited group of elements, at a time.
3)For acid base titrations, a pH indicator or pH meter is used in order to determine whether neutralization has been reached and titration is complete so basically it shows whether reaction is complete or not.
4) The equivalence point in a titration is the point at which the added titrant is chemically equivalent completely to the analyte in the sample. End point is the point where the indicator changes its color.A visual end point is always a bit greater than the equivalence point because of the necessity of seeing the color change by eye. It results in the volume of titrant delivered is too large, giving a larger final concentration than the true value
