So here :
a) When the acid is added into the buffer , the H+ released by the acid is neutralised by the conjugate base .
CO32- + H+ = HCO3-
b) When the base is added in the buffer, the OH- is neutralised by the conjugate acid.
H3O+ + OH- = 2H2O
