Question
PLEASE SHOW WORK ON HOW TO REACH THE CORRECT ANSWER.
a) Calculate delta G0' for the isomerization of glucose 6-phosphate to glucose 1-phosphate using the following values:
Glucose 1-Phosphate + HOH ---> Glucose + Pi (delta G0' = -20.9 kJ/mole)
Glucose 6-Phosphate + HOH ---> Glucose + Pi (delta G0' = -13.8 kJ/mole)
MY CALCULATIONS: (-13.8) + (+20.9) = +7.1
b) What is the equilibrium ratio of glucose 6-phosphate to glucose 1-phosphate at 25oC?
MY CALCULATIONS: delta G0' = -RTlnKeq =
+7.1kJ/mol = (-0.0083145 x 298)lnKeq
Keq = 0.0569
Although I calculate 0.0569, the actual answer is 17.8? I know the only way to get 17.8 is if my delta G0' was -7.1 kJ/mol but according to my calculations I got a positve delta G0'.

Explanation / Answer
your delta Go value is correct
It is asking isomerization from glucose 6-phosphate to glucose 1-phosphate
glucose 6-phosphate --> glucose 1-phosphate
delta Go = (-13.8) + (+20.9) = +7.1
Keq = ratio of glucose 1-phosphate to glucose 6-phosphate
But your 2nd part is wrong
It is asking ratio of ratio of glucose 6-phosphate to glucose 1-phosphate that is not Keq . Answer is 1/Keq
ratio of glucose 6-phosphate to glucose 1-phosphate = 1/0.0569 = 17.8
