Question
Topic ( identifying six solutions by their interactions ) please solve this two questions clearly, with clean writing. You will get thumbs up. Thnx 1. (1) Briefly describe the method you could use to determine whether or not Pb2+ ion is presen t in a used to water sample suspected to be contaminated with Pb2+ ion leached from the lead solder join the copper plumbing. Write the chemical equation for the positive test, and describe what you would observe. (2) If the results of the test you described in (1) were negative, could you conclude that there is no nt in the water sample? Briefly explain.
Explanation / Answer
(1) Pb2+in a water sample can be qualitatively detected by addition of dil HCl to it. Pb2+ If present would form a precipitate of PbCl2.
Pb2+(aq) + 2Cl-(aq) ---> PbCl2(s)
(2) If the result of the Pb2+ test is -ve, either Pb2+ is absent or the concentration of Pb2+ is too low to be detected by the analysis method.
