Question
My unknown for this lab was Mercury (Hg). Im having trouble finding the 3 net equations for this lab.
I think it might be:
Hg2 + HCL > HgCl2 + H
Hg2 + CrO4 > Hg2O +Cr
Hg2Cl2 + 2NH3 > 2HgNH2Cl +H2
Is this right?
GROUP IANALYSIS To a few drops of Group I known or unknown, add 6 M HCI with stirring until it appears that precipitation is complete. Centrifuge; wash the precipitate STEP1 Add a few mL distilled water to the test tube containing the precipitate Place the tube in a boiling water bath. Heat, with stirring, for at least one minute. Centrifuge quickly and separate. Repeat this step, adding the second supernatant liquid to the first from this step STEP 2 To the decantate from Step 2, add a few drops of 0.2 M K,CrO. A thick yellow precipitate confirms Pb2 STEP 3 To the precipitate from Step 2, add 15 M NH, dropwise with stirring. A black or dark gray precipitate is the positive test for Hg2 saving the centrifugage for Step 5. STEP4 2+ Centrifuge, To the centrifugate from Step 4, add 6 MHNO, dropwise until the soluti is clearly acidic (test with litmus). A white precipitate is the positive tes STEP5 for Ag 7 bive basicExplanation / Answer
