Question
John Watson believed that differences in learning experiences were responsible for differences in behavior. Discuss evidence for and against his famous quote. Why might some people have a positive response to this quote and others have a negative response.
“Give me a dozen healthy infants, well-formed, and my own specified world to bring them up in and I'll guarantee to take any one at random and train him to become any type of specialist I might select - doctor, lawyer, artist, merchant-chief and, yes, even beggar-man and thief, regardless of his talents, penchants, tendencies, abilities, vocations and the race of his ancestors.”
Explanation / Answer
Ans- learning is also responsible for the behavior but not completely, some other factors are also included in behavior.
Learning is a strong basis of behavior as we can observe in some cases where person having some disability like organ loss and they learn various difficult things and perform beyond their limit this favours the theory.
While in some disability like in dumbness the person can observe and learn but can't speak or can't perform the act which is against this theory.
Due to above reason some people will have positive response while some will have negative response.
