Question

Kidneys used in transplants come from two sources, deceased donors and living donors. Because people have two kidneys, a living person can donate a kidney to someone in renal failure if the tissue types match and then go on to live a normal life with a single kidney. With a living donation comes a higher risk for future renal failure, high blood pressure, proteinuria, etc. and the risk associated with the surgery itself. Do you think it is ethical for doctors to allow living kidney donations? Why or why not? Should the same rules apply to everyone? What if the person doing the donation is responsible for the financial well-being of his/her entire family? What if the person who is doing the living donation feels social pressure to donate? Should it be legal to pay for living donations? Why or why not? You must answer these questions in one initial post and then comment on at least two other posts.

Explanation / Answer

It is ethical for doctors to allow living kidney donations as the person who is donating is responsible for himself by pledging under the act of donating his one kidney.

This rule should not be applied for all the people. Based on the conditions and situations relevant to their household issues or personal or financial issues, the donor is responsible to donate his organ without any pressure.

As explained, a person does donation only due to the financial well being of the entire family to overcome the problems. It is not legal to donate without the favour of person.

If a person feels pressurized from the society under living donation, then the person is allowed to continue to donate if he feels right for donation.

It is legal to pay for living donations as the person who is donating should be acknowledged as he does it for some purpose. The purpose should be fulfilled after his donation.

The person can be thankful in any ways the donor wants so that the person can be satisfied for his work.
