Question
CHEM HELP PLEASE!!! The half-life of a reaction, t1/2 , is the time it takes for the reactant concentration [A] to decrease by half. For example, after one half-life the concentration falls from the initial concentration [A]0 to [A]0/2 , after a second half-life to [A]0/4 , after a third half-life to [A]0/8 , and so on. on.
Part B
A certain second-order reaction (Bproducts ) has a rate constant of 1.55×103M1s1 at 27 C and an initial half-life of 206 s . What is the concentration of the reactant B after one half-life?
Explanation / Answer
for second order reaction,
t1/2 = 1 / k * [A0]
[A0] = t1/2 * k
[A0] = 206 * 1.55 *10^-3
[A0] = 0.3193 M
and also we know the formula
(t1/2)1 / (t1/2)2 = a2 / a1
206 / 2 * 206 = a2 / 0.3193
a2 = 0.1663 M
