Question

Suppose a student chose to measure solution volumes using the beakers in the lab. What effect would this have on the calculated acid concentration in the juices or sodas? Justify your answer. How might this affect the number of significant figures in your final answer? Explain. A student rinsed the buret with water but did not rinse the buret with the 0.100 M NaOH solution. What effect would this have on the calculated acid concentration in the juices or sodas? Justify your answer. If a lab team consistently added base past the first appearance of a pale pink color, what would happen to the average calculated acid concentration? Explain. After conducting this experiment, what recommendations might you make for a person with acid reflux disease or tooth decay despite the fact that they drink juice or soda? justify your answer.

Explanation / Answer

1) a) every time you moved the liquid from one side to another, you introduce a sistemaic error in the experiment. also, the problem with this beverages is that there is a gas formed that you loose everytime that is moved an goes in contact with the air, so the concentration is affected.

b) the signficant figures that you have using the beakers in the lab is higher than the one that you can have in the cans or bottles, So you will have a difference in the accuracy of your results.

2) When you do not rinse the buret with the solute you are using, you introduce a systematic error because you are varying the concentration of the solution used.

3) when you ovverpassed the ligth pale pink color the numer of equivalents reactioning increase, so you will not have the exact concentration of the acid.

4) Well, when you drink bottled juices or sodas you introduce acid to your body, If you suffer from acid reflux that means that the quantity of acid in your body is at higher level that it shoul be, then if you added more acid it will increase your level of acids so it will make the acid reflux worst.

The acid contributes with the damage of the thoots, Then in you suffer from that you will increase your risk os thoot damage consuming that kind of beverages. And if you do you should try to wash your thoots inmediatly so you can reduce the action of the acid.
