Question 7 of 15 Incorrect Map General Chemistry Edation eneral Chemistry4hEditio University Science Books presented by Sapling Learning 4th Edition Donald McQuarrie Peter A. Rock Ethan Gallogly Carbon disulfide is prepared by heating sulfur and charcoal. The chemical equation is CS K, 9.40 at 900 K How many grams of CS2(g) can be prepared by heating 17.6 moles of S2(g) with excess carbon in a 7.65 L reaction vessel held at 900 K until equilibrium is attained? Explanation / Answer

Kc = 9.4

S2 + C <-> CS2

n = 17.6 mol ofS2

V = 7.65 L

[S2] = molV = 17.6/7.65 = 2.300

apply K

K = [CS2] /[S2][C]

Since C is solid

K = [CS2] /[S2]

in equilibrium

[CS2] = +x

[S2] = 2.300 - x

9.4 = (x)/(2.300 - x)

solve for x

2.3*9.4 - 9.4x = x

10.4x =2.3*9.4

x = 2.3*9.4/10.4 = 2.0788

[CS2] = +x = 2.0788

[S2] = 2.300 - 2.0788= 0.2212

CS2 = 2.0788 M

mass = mol*MW

mol = M*V

so mass = MV*MW = 2.0788 *7.65*76.1407 = 1210.8518 g of CS2
