A key step in the metabolism of glucose for energy is the isomerization of glucose-6-phosphate (G6P) to fructose-6-phosphate (F6P) as shown below.

At 298 K, the equilibrium constant for the isomerization is 0.510.

Explanation / Answer

Please post only one question at a time. I will answer your last question.

(a) G° = -RTlnK = -(8.31442 J/K-mol) (298 K) ln(0.510) = 1668 J/mol

(b) G = G° + RTlnQ = (1668 J/mol) + (8.31442 J/K-mol) (298 K) ln(18.0) = 8829 J/mol. Since G is positive, the reaction reverts back to product (as the reaction is written).

(c) G = G° + RTlnQ = (1668 J/mol) + (8.31442 J/K-mol) (298 K) ln(0.1) = -4037 J/mol. Since G is negative, the reaction goes backward towards reactants.

(d) G = G° + RTlnQ;
-3500 J/mol = (1668 J/mol) + (8.31442 J/K-mol) (298 K) lnQ;
Q = 0.124. Since Q<K, then the reaction proceeds as written.
