Question
Investigate the interaction of ecological processes by completing the following sentences.
what is wrong with my answers?
When resources are limiting, a superior competitor will often eliminate other species in the community through resource partitioning. However, predation will often reduce the numbers of the superior competitor. An example of this effect can be seen in the rocky intertidal zone, where sea stars, the dominant predator, greatly reduce the population size of mussels. When sea stars are removed, the size of the mussel population increases, decreasing the population sizes of species that compete with the mussels. Overall, this result suggests that predation reduces competition. inferior competitor predation competitive exclusion dominant predator compete with resource partitioning superior competitor infect Batesian mimicryExplanation / Answer
The competition start in an ecosystem when there is limiting resources. The competition will be more if evey organisms are using the same resource or niche. In this situation, there will be a Competitive exclusion. In the competitive exclusion, only one group of organisms exist, and the other will be eliminated. The superior competitor exists and the inferior competitor will be eliminated. An example of this effect can be seen in the rocky intertidal zone where sea stars, the dominant predator greatly reduce the population size of mussels. When sea stars are removed , the size of mussel population increases, decreasing the population sizes of species that compete with mussels. Also predation is one of the way to reduce population. Here the predator infect and kills their prey there by reducing the population size of prey. In some instance, the competition will be reduced, which is because different organisms uses or competes for different resources or niche. This condition is called resource partitioning, which reduce the competitive exclusion.
