Question
This is a chemistry post lab question. I am a bit confused. please help me!
my initial weight was 81.209 g and my final molar mass after condensing the liquid was 81.234 g.
The amount of air that reenters the flask is different that that which was present upon initial weighing, and subsequently expelled from the flask, due to the fact that the liquid you used was a volatile one and will not completely recondense. some of the liquid remains in the vapor phase, even at room temperature. given this information, is the amount of air that reenters greater or less than that which was present upon inital weighing?? if you were able to correct the difference, would the final molar mass be greater or less than the value you determined?
Explanation / Answer
1) The amount of air that re-enters was greater than that which was present upon inital weighing.
2) If the difference is corrected, the molar mass will be lesser than the value determined earlier
