Question
estionS If the accepted value is(20 which technique (serial dilution or single dilution) gave the most accurate result? A total volume of 400ml of a ¼ dilution is to be prepared. How much of the concentrated solution is to be used? Suppose you have a stock solution that is 10 times more concentrated than it is used. How would you prepare 20ml of that solution at the correct concentration? If you prepare a 1/5 dilution of a 50% solution of ethanol, what is the final concentration of the diluted solution? If 20ml of saline is added to 4ml of serum, what is the serum dilution? 2013NSC Y1 Biotechniques LaboratoryExplanation / Answer
1. If you dont need different concetration solution ( in between 20 to desired) then it is better to use single step dilution because human error in every step dillution and glass ware error makes very tough to get accurate answer. Please check this link( http://www.austincc.edu/biocr/1406/labm/ex2/prelab_2_5.htm).
2.As the volume is quite high so use just concetration twice that of the desired concetration and 200 ml solution. So just doubling the solvet you can easily get the accurate concentration.
3. Let the desired concetration is 1( it is easy to calculate)
20*1=volume*(10*1). now just calculate the volume.
4. 100 ml total solution. 50 ml ethanol. Target solution 500 ml.
100*50=500*x so, x= 10%.
5.20*.154=24*x so, x=.128
