24. For the following reaction at equilibrium, which choice gives a change that will shift the position of i equilibrium to arvor more products? A increase the total pressure (by decreasing the volume) B. add more NO(g) C. remove Br (g) D. lower the temperature E. remove NOBr selectively 25. Consider the reaction: FeO(s) Cog)Fes)+CO(g) IF 1.00 atm of CO is placed in a 1.00 L botle and the reaction comes to equilibrium at 25°C, what will be the equilibrium pressure of CO-tg) if K, 0.345 at 25°C? A. 0.514 atm B. 0.067 atm C. 0257 atm D. 0.690 atm E. 0.345 atm 6. Addition of a reactant or product to a reaction at equilibrium causes a shift in the reaction, because A. the addition changes K. the adition upsets the equality of he rates of the forward and reverse react e addition upsets the equality of the rates of the forward and reverse reactions C. the addition changes the energy barrier between reactants and products. D. the addition changes the energy difference between reactants and products E. all of the above XTRA CREDIT 7. K, for the reaction: NH CMs) eHCIg)+NHg is 1.04 x 10 at. If 1.00 mole of NH Cls) is nled inExplanation / Answer
24) The correct option is C.
If we increase the pressure that means that the system has to low the amount of gas in order to restore the original pressure. We can do this consuming products to form reagents, because at the side of reagents there are less moles of gas than the side of products.
The reaction is endothermic, for this cases is easier to consider temperature as a reagent or preoduct. When the reaction is endothermic the temperature is considered as a reagent because the reaction needs heat to occur. If it is exothermic the temperature is a product because it realeases heat. In this case if we low the temperature it is like removing a reagent, so the equilibrium will shift to the reagents.
If we add NO we are adding a product, so, in order to consume it the reaction shifts to the reagents.
If we remove Br2 the reaction has to create more of it so the shift is to the products (option C).
Finally if we remove NOBr, the reaction has to create it so the shift is to the left.
25)
We will not consider the iron and FeO because they are solids and don´t count for the equilibrium constant.
CO <----> CO2
1atm_____0
1-x_______x
Kp= x/1-x= 0.345 ----> x= 0.257atm = PCO2
23) The rules to solve this are the same as the ones explained at excercise 24, try to solve this question. Plese read the explanations there because they are almost the same. If you have any doubt let me know.
The correct answer is B.
