Question

Use Le Chatelier's principle to predict the effect of each of the changes below on the amount of silver amine complex present at equilibrium in the system below, and explain each prediction:
a) addition of NaCl b) addition of HNO3 c) addition of AgCl d) increase in pressure e) increase in temperature 9. Use Le Chatelier's to predict the effect of each of the changes below on siver amine complex present at equilibrium in the sgystem below, and explain ea prediction.. pilecrctmin mpe prese t at g n the system below, an the am cl AgCl(s) 2NH + 3(aq) Ag(NH3)2' (aq) + Clim) H is negative

Explanation / Answer

a) addition of NaCl will increase the concentration of Cl- ion so the equlibrium shift to left hand side.

b) Addition of HNO3 leads to decrease in NH3 concentration so the reaction shifts to left hand side.

c) Addition of AgCl leads to increase in concentration of AgCl so the reaction shifts to right hand side.

d) Increase in the pressure leads to increasing the energy of reactants hence reaction shifts to right hand side.

e) In the given reaction the energy is released hence if we increse the temperature then the energy of product molecules increases so the equilibrium shift to left hand side.
