Question
How many distinct ionizable groups exist within the Peptide HDTC? list the groups and indicate which residue its on and the type of chemical group it is and it's pKa value. At a pH of 0 what is the net charge of the peptide.
I think there are 4, the protonated amine on Histidine with a pKa of 9.17, the carboxyl R group on the Aspartate with a pKa of 3.65, the hydroxy group on the Threonine (2.11 pKa) and the sulfhydrl group of Cysteine with a pKa of 8.18. At a pH of 0 the net charge, the carboxyl R group on the Asp is neutral because pH<pKa, the protonated amine is a +1 charge on the Histidine, and threonine is uncharged and cystsine is negatively charged because of the carboxyl group. This gives a overall charge of 0.
Am I correct?
Explanation / Answer
