At pH 10 , the aniline is in its base forme C6H5NH2 . It is completely soluble in ether, not in water. At pH 10, the aniline will most be found in the organic layer.

At pH 2 , the aniline is in its acid form C6H5NH3+. The anilinium ion is soluble in water , not in ether. At pH 2 , the water layer will dissolve the anilinium ion. Some of neutral aniline will remains in the organic layer.
