Question
2. Prior to their banning in 1978, most common household paints contained lead in the form of PbCrO4 (“yellow lead”), PbO2 and PbO (“red lead”), and PbCO3 (“white lead”). Even though toxic lead is no longer used in household paints, older homes still have lead paint on the walls or trim layered underneath nontoxic paint. This becomes a significant hazard for homes with young children, who mistakenly ingest paint chips, whichcan cause neurodevelopment issues. Given this information, design a ligand that could be used to selectively complex toxic lead (Pb(II) and Pb(IV)) and extract it from older paint. Be sure to discuss why you incorporated specific functionalities into your ligand design. Would you use a different ligand to complex Pb(II) than you would for Pb(IV)? If so, what functionalities would you change and how.
Explanation / Answer
hexadentate ligands like EDTA , en , etcwill be better for removal of Pb+4
Or any other poly dentate lignads will be better for formation of a complex.
For Pb+2 , the CN- ligands are used , as it forms complex .
