In my lab experience I got the following results:

C12 originally color clear with hexane both layers clear.

Br2 original color is an orange yellow color with hexane dark orange on top layer. Yellow color on bottom.

I2 original color brownish yellowish. Red is on the bottom and purple on top with hexane.

Cl2 with KBr - dark yellow on bottom and lighter yellow on top

Cl2 with KI - orange on bottom Magenta on top. bubbles where the layer meet

Br2 with NaCl - bottom is yellow. Top is a reddish/orangish yellow

Br2 with KI - bottom is dark red. Top layer is purple with a line of red

I2 with NaCl - Magenta/purple on top. Red lay on bottom. A few bubbles.

I2 with KBr - magenta on top and a reddish orange on the bottom.

Explanation / Answer

the recativity is in the order

Most Chlorine > Bromine > Iodine least

The data suggests the color change, the color change occurs when

1) chlorine gets color change with both bromide and iodide ions so chlorine is most reactive

2) Iodine cannot displace both Bromide and chloride
