(b) What pressure is required in order to compress it to 0.033 L at the same temperature?

atm

Explanation / Answer

Initial volume of air,V1 = 4.3 L

Initial pressure of air, P1 = 2.3 atm

(a). Final pressure, P2 = 6.8 atm

Since, temperature and moles of air is constant.

P1V1 = P2V2

4.3 * 2.3 = 6.8 * V2

V2 = 1.45 L

So, sample will occupy 1.45 L volume at 6.8 atm.

(b). Final volume, V2 = 0.033 L

P1V1 = P2V2

2.3 * 4.3 = P2 * 0.033

P2 = 299.7 atm

299.7 atm pressure is required in order to compress it to 0.033 L.
