Question
The following data were recorded in determining the molar mass of a volatile liquid following the Procedure of this experiment. Complete the table for analysis. (See Report Sheet.) Record calculate with the correct number of significant figures. Show calculation. Mass of vapor, m vapor (g) Show calculation, Molar mass of vapor (g/mol) Show calculation. For Trials 2 and 3. the molar mass of the vapor was determined to be 46.5g/mol and 43.1 g/mol respectively. What is the average molar mass of the vapor? Data Analysis, B. What are the standard deviation and the relative standard deviation (%RSD) for the molar mass of the vapor? Data Analysis. C and D.Explanation / Answer
Answer:
Molar mass of the vapour = 46.5 grams/mol and 43.1 grams/mol
Average molar mass of vapour = (46.5 + 43.1)/2
= 44.8 grams/mol
Standard deviation = (Average molar mass*100)/Actual molar mass
For the molar mass= 46.5 grams/mol
= (44.8*100)/46.5
=96.3% , it is -3.7%deviated from standard value
For the molar mass= 43.1 grams/mol
=(44.8*100)/43.1
=103.9, it is +3.9% deviated from standard value.
Relative deviation of molar mass = (Lower value*100)/higher value
= (43.1*100)/46.5
= 92.7%
