Question

Based on the solubility test results, indicate for each compound if there is a suitable solvent for a single-solvent recrystallization and if there are two solvents suitable for a two-solvent recrytilization (briefly explain your reasoning in each case).

"S" = soluble, "P.S."= partially soluble, "I"=insoluble, "-" = no reaction

Explanation / Answer

Acetanilide can recrystallises with Ethyl acetate.

Because acetanilide has no reactivity in solvent in cold condition and it is soluble in hot condition so tha we can recrystalises with ethyl acetate.

Napthalene can be recrystalises with Ethanol.

Because it has solubility with hot ethanol and no reaction with cold condition so it can be recrystallised with ethanol

Sucrose can recrystalises with water.

Sucrose soluble in water and heated strongly then the water evapourated then sucrose is seperated out
