Ans 1: There are two types of melanin that determine the color of hair - Eumelanin and pheomelanin.

Orange and red color of hair is due to pheomelanin.

While if there is low amount of eumelanin, it results in blonde hair. The higher concentration of Eumelanin results in brown hair.

The natural hair color is maintained due to melanin pigment. When this pigment is lost, hair color turns white or grey.
