Question

Please help not sure? number 1 and 2

1. For spontaneously occuring natural processes in an isolated system, which of the following expressions best describes dS?

dS = w

dS > 0

dS < 0

dS = 0

E. dS = dq/T

2. All of the following statements below about entropy are true EXCEPT:

The molar entropy of vaporization of most liquids are around 85 J/(mol-K)

An irreversible process increases the entropy of the universe.

The entropy of a crystal at 0oC is zero.

Entropy is not a path function.

The net entropy of a closed cycle is zero.

A.

dS = w

B.

dS > 0

C.

dS < 0

D.

dS = 0

E. dS = dq/T

2. All of the following statements below about entropy are true EXCEPT:

A.

The molar entropy of vaporization of most liquids are around 85 J/(mol-K)

B.

An irreversible process increases the entropy of the universe.

C.

The entropy of a crystal at 0oC is zero.

D.

Entropy is not a path function.

E.

The net entropy of a closed cycle is zero.

Explanation / Answer

1) For spontaneous process , always dS > 0 (because randomness indicates the spontanity) , thus the option is B.

2) According the third law of thermdynamics, entropy of perfect crystal at 0 K is zero. But in option c) it is mentioned at 0 deg C, so c) is answer.
