What reason do they give as the likely cause of this result? according to the abstract at the beginning of the journal article , at what ph range did alder ton and fevold Successfully crystallize lysozyme? What reason do they give as the likely cause of this result?Explanation / Answer
(i)pH range (9.5-11) for crystallization of lysozyme
(ii) At lower pH, the solubility of lysozyme is increased. The basic groups of lysozyme combines with the acidic solution and becomes charged molecule which is soluble.
The isoelectric region(9.5-11), lysozyme looses its charge and become insoluble and hence crystallizes easily. Crystallization doesnt change at high pH as all the basic groups are uncharged.
