Question

You will begin by diluting 5.00 mL of a 0.8 M Oxalic acid stock solution with water to a final volume of 100.00 mL. What will be the final concentration of the oxalic acid ?

How many sig fig would you use to express the concentration of the diluted oxalic acid and why?

The burette containing NaOH is to be conditioned before being filled up. The conditioning consists in rinsing the burette with a small amount of the very same solution that will be used to fill it. Imagine you instead rinse it with water. What would be the consequence on your calculations? Would your calculated concentration of acetic acid be unaffected, too large or too small?

What problem would arise if you will forget to add the indicator (phenolphthalein) to the flask with the acid?

Explanation / Answer

dillution formula as follows

M1V1 = M2V2

0.8 x 5.0 = M2 x 100

M2 = 4 / 100 = 0.04 M =      we use one significant figures because while calculations least significant is 1 so answer significant number also 1.

if we rinse with NaOH solution in results it will not show any effect why because with sane solution we will do titration again.

if we donot forgen to add indicator solution remains colour less even end point reached. so we caan detect the end point if we donot add phenolphthalein.
