Question

There is two parts to the question which os more stable A or B And the reason below

Question Be sure to answer all parts. Identify the more stable stereoisomer in the following pair, and choose the reason that explains your choice. A: or B: The more stable stereoisomer is: structure A- This is because: A. Two methyl groups are equatorial and one is axial in its most stable conformation. B. All methyl groups are axial in its most stable conformation O C. All methyl groups are equatorial in its most stable conformation. O D. Two methyl groups are axial and one is equatorial in its most stable conformation.

Explanation / Answer

Answer – We are given, two isomer of 1,2,4-trimethylcyclohexane A and B.

When we draw the A and B there is found that all methyl at the equatorial position in isomer of A and in the B isomer there is only one methyl at the equatorial. We know the equatorial position is more stable than axial, so in the structure A there are three methyl at equatorial and in B only one methyl at equatorial, so structure A is more stable.

So answer is – More stable stereoisomers - Structure A

C. All methyl groups are equatorial in the most stable conformation
