Background Info: Added 50mg cooking oil w/ 1.7mL of .5M NaOH in methanol, boiled in hot water bath 3-5 min. Added 2.0mL of 12.5% boron trifluoride in methanol - boiled 2 min. Separated using 4mL saturated aqueous sodium chloride & petroleum ether. Dried with sodium sulfate and evaporated off solvent.
Explanation / Answer
1. As you added oil and water it won't be soluble.
2. As you forgot to add trifluoride/methanol the oil will saponificate
