1. Fortified rice-soy meals can be delivered to countries where hunger and malnutrition occur clue to various factors such as war and natural disasters. They may contain vitamin packets, seasoning packets, rice and textured vegetable protein (soy). One such packet contains six 1/2 cup servings (dry) and has the following nutritional information per serving. Using the following information, calculate the Calories per serving and the joules per serving (show all work). 2. Using the same information, calculate the Calories per serving in one of your typical dinners. Please list the contents of the meal.

Explanation / Answer

1)
In 1 serving:
Carbohydrate = 41 g
Calories per gm of carbohydrate = 4 cal
Energy from carbohydrate = 4*41 = 164 cal

fat = 0g
Calories per gm of fat = 9 cal
Energy from fat = 9*0 = 0cal

Proteing = 13 g
Calories per gm of protein = 4 cal
Energy from protein = 4*13 = 52 cal

Total energy in calorie = 164 +52 = 216 calories
Total energy in joule = 216*4184 = 903744 Joules

2)
2nd part wants to you to calculate energy in your typical dinner.
It depends strictly on you what you eat.
Once you know how much fat , carbohydrate and protein you consume, you can convert into energy as I have done above
