Label four 25 x 150 mm test tubes: Ni(H2O)62+, Ni(en)(H2O)42+ , Ni(en)2(HO)22+ and Ni(en)32+.
To the four tubes, transfer 1 mL of NiCl2 solution and 15 mL of water, stir the solutions
To the tube Ni(H2O)62+ let aside and use as control
To the tube Ni(en)(H2O)42+, transfer 0.5 mL of 12.5% ethylenediamine Stir the mixture.. A light blue color should appear.
To the tube Ni(en)2(H2O)22+, add 1 mL of 12.5% ethylenediamine and stir. A royal blue color should appear.
To the tube Ni(en)32+ , add 1.5 mL of 12.5% ethylenediamineand stir. A violet color should appear.
According to the colors which of them would be more stable?
Explanation / Answer
A Violet colour would be more stable because then concentration of ethylenediamine is more.
