Question 1 - Mendels First Law

A husband and wife have normal skin pigmentation. Their first child is born albino. What are the genotypes of the parents and of the albino child? What is the chance that if they have a second child he/she will be albino? What is the chance that if they have a third child, he/she will be albino. Show your argument by means of a punnett square.

Question 2 - Mendels Second Law

A purple flowered, tall pea plant was crossed with a white flowered dwarf plant and in the F1 generation the following offspring resulted.

Purple, tall 99
Purple, dwarf 103
White, tall 101
White, dawrf 97

What are the genotypes of the parents and the offspring? Please show your logic.

What are the expected numbers in the cross? What are the deviations from the expected for each class of plants that resulted? Do the actual numbers seem to agree well with the expected?

I am COMPLETELY lost! I registered for this class late and have NO idea what is going on.. PLEASE HELP!!

Explanation / Answer

for the first one: Let's say A represents normal skin pigmentation and a represents albino. Albino skin is a recessive gene, so the mother and father's genotypes would both be Aa and the albino child's would be aa. A a A AA Aa a Aa aa This is what the Punnet Square would look like. They only have a 25% chance of having albino children and since they already have one, the next two should be normal, although there is a 50% chance they will be a carrier of the albino gene. For the second . . . I have no idea. Sorry.
