Question

One stock tank barrel of oil and 768 SCF of gas were placed in a laboratory cell. The pressure was raised until all the gas dissolved in oil. At that pressure the cell volume was 1.474 bbl. After that the pressure was reduced by increasing the volume of the cell to 1.569 bbl. At that point the oil and gas volumes were 1.418 bbl and 0.151 bbl respectively. And the pressure was 2253 psig Calculate:
a) The Oil Formation volume Factor at the final pressure.
b) The Total Oil Formation volume Factor at the final pressure.
c) Calculate the Solution Gas Oil ratio at the final pressure. (Assuming Ideal gas, T=190 F).

Explanation / Answer

a). Volume of oil at reservoir conditions, RCF = 1.474 bbl

Volume at standard conditions, SCF = 1.418 bbl

Oil formation factor, Bo = 1.474 / 1.418

= 1.039

b). Vo = 1.418 bbl

Vg = 0.151 bbl

Bt = 1.418 + 0.151

= 1.569 res bbl/ STB

c). Solution gas oil ratio Rs = 0.151 / 1.418

= 0.106
