Question

Write up a research proposal on this topic: GMO's and Diet

The Purpose

The purpose of the research proposal is to give both you and me an idea of where you would like your research to go. This is by no means a final, set-in-stone plan. Rather, the proposal permits you to focus and direct your research. There are hundreds of thousands of potential sources to be found, and a focused approach will prevent you from becoming overwhelmed or wandering aimlessly through the Internet. As you continue to research, you should be able to develop your ideas beyond what you include here.

A good place to start for any research project is to think critically about your topic. Your proposal should demonstrate this critical thinking. What interests you about this topic? Angers you? What about this topic has had a direct effect on you or people you know? What needs to change? Stay the same? Keep in mind that the purpose of your research project will be to inform your reader. This is almost always better accomplished by choosing a direction that contains some personal meaning or interest for you.

What to Include

Your proposal must be a full 1.5-2 page (350-500 words), typed, double spaced, TNR size 12 font, 1” margins all around, MLA format. You must include at least one working thesis statement—multiple if you have multiple ideas. This, again, is not final. In fact, I expect your thesis to evolve as your project progresses. You should include possible directions for your research. On which area(s) will you be focusing? Which question(s) will you attempt to answer?

You should also include WHY these areas interest you. Why are they important to you and to your reader?

Explanation / Answer

The research proposal for GMO's and Diet as a topic can be taken in any way you want. Since it has to have a personal element I have suggested a few topics that you would like to consider while outlining your proposal.

1. Genetically modified organisms used for increasing the production of food for feeding third world countries. Is it ethical or not?

2. Are GMO foods bad or the pesticides used while growing them the real culprits to blame?

3. How can the biodiversity of a farmland be restored after growing GMO foods?

4. What are the measures that people can take to avoid consuming GMO foods and what are the expectations from the government in this regard?

Introduction:

In 1972, Paul Berg devised a method by which individual genes could be isolated and inserted into mammalian cells or into rapidly growing organisms like bacteria. Herbert Boyer and Stanley Cohen expanded on Berg’s research and discovered how to construct functional organisms using combined and replicated genetic information from different species. Their experiments drastically demonstrated the potential impact of DNA recombinant engineering on medicine, industry, and agriculture. Today, on one hand, GMO’s seeds are being used in many agricultural sectors because they offer increased yields, reduced need for pesticides and drought resistance. On the other hand,GMO fed Rats are showing partially atrophied livers, fat gain of 12-16%, and reproductive problems related to sperm and infant mortality.

Method of research:Please outline your intent.

For further research I plan on finding more research that has been done on the link between ___________ and GMOs and health risk.

Please consider this as reference only to submit the proposal.
