Question
1. According to your data, how is solubility of KNO3 affected by an increase in temperature of the solvent? 2. Using your graph, tell if each of these solutions would be saturated or unsaturated: a. 110 g of KNO3 in 100 g of water at 40 degree C b. 60 g of KNO3 in 100 g of water at 70 degree C c. 140 g of KNO3 in 200 g of water at 60 degree C 3. According to your graph, will 5O g of KNO3completely dissolve in 100 g of water at 50 degree C? Explain. 4. According to your graph, will 80 g of KNO3 completely dissolve in 100 g of water at 30 degree C . Explain. 5. At 30 degree C, approximately how many grams of KNO3 would dissolve in 100 g of water?Explanation / Answer
1) As the temperature increases, the solubility also increases.
2) a) Saturated
b) Unsaturated
c) Saturated
3)From graph, at saturation approximately 40 grams are dissolved in 100 gms of water. If we try to dissolve 50 gms then after 40 gms it would be saturated and rest 10 gms would remain undissolved.
4)By intrapolating the graph, at 300 the saturation amount is 20 gms/100 gms of water. If we add 80 gms then only 20 gms would be dissolved and rest would remain 60 gms be undissolved.
5)At 300C , from extrapolation, approximately saturation quantity is 20 gms/100 gms of water.
